Divya and her friends invaded Hong Kong for the weekend, descending from China, Singapore and Thailand. We did our best to offset our carbon miles by drinking our way through Hong Kong's supply of Sambuca. (There's some logic burried in there somewhere).
The birthday girl arrived with her German rockstar flatmate early on Friday and took a trip to see Stanley market, while the rest of us were hard at work... (those LCD TVs won't pay for themselves!) We met up with Sorcha and Chris late that evening and after wetting our lips at Joyce Is Not Here (where the Gin Maritni's are 95% gin and 15% vermouth), we hit Lan Kwai Fung for a drink or three. Glug glug....
Not to be outdone Richard partied with some models until 7am in what turned out to be a pretty comprehensive tour of duty around HK's trendier bars. We met up with him later (much much later) on Saturday afternoon (he is a rockstar after all). We had dinner with a motely crew in Peiking Gardens in the basement of Alexandra House. The food was top drawer and you get some great Shanghainese food.
The picks from the menu have to be the hand made noodles (made in front of you!), Peiking Duck and the Beggar's Chicken, which has to be ordered a few days in advance. Beggar's Chicken or "jiaohu ji" is wrapped in lotus leaves, covered in clay and (traditionally) cooked in the ground. Divya will demonstrate:
The rest of the night, no one is quiet too sure about. But with drinks like this, it must have been fun.
.... and they can't have been that drunk to dance like this, right?
Divya's got some pics from the weekend up at her facebook. Thanks to Ken, Chris, Sorcha, Matt, Richard and random web programmer dude for making it a great weekend!
